Amazon plans second prime day

Amazon is looking to replicate its Prime Day 2022 Success and it doesn’t come as a surprise since the results have come out. Amazon is estimated to of made $12.09B globally during the event. It’s considered the biggest in the e-comm giant’s history being up 8.1% from 2021. Household items, consumer electronics, and health and beauty topped the list of most purchased items on Prime Day 2021.

58% of products sold were in the under £20 category this was affected by the rising cost of living, while only 5% sold for over £100. This shows that consumers are prioritising what they need over what they desire.

Prime Day

Consumer behaviour has also changed, consumers are looking at deals online and comparing them to prices in-store. 28% of people ignored a deal because it wasn’t a necessity but rather a teat. 34% of people on Prime Day 2022 waited for the big day to purchase goods they truly need but at a discounted price.

We feel this pattern will continue for the rest of the year with Christmas just round the corner. People will be looking online for discounted presents and essentials to save money where they can.

Prime Early Access Sale

According to rumours the next 2-day sale event will be held in October and is being named the Prime Early Access Sale. A report also says that Amazon has already started asking sellers to send their special promotion deals for the event. Prime members may also be given early access to such deals, specifically Prime-eligible Lightning Deals on Amazon. By holding another mega sales event in October, Amazon could drive more sales. It may also help them to attract more subscribers to its Prime program.

What does this mean for sellers for Black Friday/Cyber Monday?

  • Amazon holding a Prime Day event in October may confuse sellers and the strategy for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. This means sellers should prepare themselves for
  • Added competition. Before Christmas, competitors may use this Prime Early Access Sale to launch their products into top-ranking positions.
  • Potential shipping delays. More packages will keep fulfilment centres and carriers extremely busy as early as October, worsening the supply chain situation.
